Matthew 5:3-10
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
In an effort to eradicate the selfishness in the heart of mankind, I’ve heard several pastors preach sermons making this statement:
“It’s not about YOU!”
I understand that life isn’t all about me…but the Kingdom IS about me.
Jesus said so.
He promises me (as He did His disciples) that when I realize I am poor in spirit and I need God, the Kingdom of Heaven will be mine.
He promises me that if I express my emotions, He will comfort me.
He promises me that when I humble myself, I will inherit the whole earth.
He promises me that when I hunger for justice, I will be satisfied.
He promises me that when I am merciful to others, He will be merciful to me.
He promises me that a pure heart will enable me to see God.
He promises me that when I work for peace in my relationships I will be called His child.
He promises me that when I’m persecuted for obeying Him, the Kingdom of Heaven is mine.
Telling the body of Christ “it’s not about YOU” breeds division and exclusion and frankly, its just not biblical.
The Kingdom of Heaven IS about me….and its about others.
Jesus said the greatest thing I can do is Love God. My relationship with the Father, through the Son, by the power of the Spirit is my first priority. After I receive His love, love Him in return through my obedience (becoming a disciple), I am able to love others. And then…I can make more disciples.
This is the Kingdom of Heaven:
God the Father.
God the Son.
God the Holy Spirit.
Me.
We.
